Twenty Sri Lankan apparel companies are expected
to participate in the world’s largest fashion
business event, MAGIC market place, which opens
in Las Vegas, USA on August 25.
An arena of over 85,000 buyers from 110 countries,
7,000 exhibitors and 33,000 departmental stores
representing stalls covering 800,000 square
feet of floor space, MAGIC is the largest biannual
fashion trade exhibition in the globe.
“It is a rare opportunity for Sri Lankan
apparel companies to participate in a global
market place of this magnitude to meet and conduct
business with the world’s top buyers”,
says Hiran, Jayasinghe, MAGIC’s local
representative and President SUMMIT Corporation
(Pvt) Ltd.
MAGIC, which opens on August 25 amidst thousands
of visitors from the world over, will continue
till August 28.
“This time it will be an all-round event
at the fabric show held by MAGIC in New York
will be shifted to the MAGIC market place in
Las Vegas. This is a double bonus for the participants”,
Jayasinghe said.
MAGIC which first started in 1932 in Los Angles
moved Las Vegas in 1971. Transactions to the
value of US$ 60 billion were pushed through
during last February’s MAGIC Marketplace.

Jayasinghe,
who serves as this global event’s local
representative more as a service to Sri Lanka,
says that MAGIC will be a big incentive for our
country as 85% of apparel buyers as 85% of apparel
buyers from the entire US and Europe decide on
their apparel purchases for the next six months
at MAGIC.

He said the company send some
representatives as visitors to this international
event last February and was very impressed by
it.
“There is a growing demand
for hand-woven natural silk in the world and we
are positive of making a big impact at MAGIC”,
Nowfer said.
Jaysainge said that the package
for MAGIC is Rs. 700,000 for two people on business
class with 4 days’ accommodation and a booth
at the venue.
